President Donald Trump’s Easter WWIII Truth Social Post Sparks Mixed Reactions

Haley Kennington

Former President Trump sent a vague and ominous messages to his followers on Truth Social on Easter Sunday.

In his two Easter Sunday posts, President Donald Trump managed to upset both sides, while keeping the focus on himself and his own enemies.

The first post simply said, “WORLD WAR III”. The second was lengthier and written in all capital letters.

“HAPPY EASTER TO ALL, INCLUDING THOSE THAT DREAM ENDLESSLY OF DESTROYING OUR COUNTRY BECAUSE THEY ARE INCAPABLE OF DREAMING ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE, THOSE THAT ARE SO INCOMPETENT THEY DONT REALIZA THAT HAVING A BORDER AND POWERFUL WALL IS A GOOD THING, & HAVING VOTER I.S., ALL PAPER BALLOTS, & SAME DAY VOTING WILL QUICKLY END MASSIVE VOTER FRAUD, & TO ALL OF THOSE WEAK & PATHETIC RINOS, RADICAL LEFT DEMOCRATS, SOCIALISTS MARXISTS, & COMMUNISTS WHO ARE KILLING OUR NATION, REMEMBER, WE WILL BE BACK!”

Given evangelicals view Easter as one of the most important religious holidays of the year, the two messages caused confusion and concern.

One Twitter user posted a meme that read, “Donald tRump just tweeted ‘WORLD WAR III’ on Easter Sunday. It’s time, Jesus…” along with a meme that asked, “What would Jesus do?”. The image showed Trump walking aside Jesus Christ, then Jesus pushing the former president underwater and holding him there till he drowned.

USA Today opinion columnist Michael J. Stern said he believed Trump’s post was more of a dog whistle to supporters, suggesting the former leader wants to make the United States a “violent hellscape”.

Many who oppose Trump seem to believe the post was referring to some mystery indictment that Trump believed would end his political career, while others saw the post as a serious threat. Writer Fiona Adorno called the post “an act of terrorism and should be treated as such.”

Never one to be outdone, social media political orbiter Ed Krassenstein suggested that Trump seemed to be rooting for World War III just to attack Democrats.

“MAGA seems to literally be hoping for WWIII,” he said. “This is how divided he has made America.”

Avid supporters of President Trump blamed the former President’s murky message on the current administration.

Twitter user Joshua T. Hosler responded by saying, “Do you honestly think Biden’s stupidity and weakness with Russia and China WON’T get us into WWIII? Everyone is upset about this but ignore the fact Biden allowed a Chinese spy balloon across the US and has chased our allies to China and Russia.”

Others were baffled by the post, unsure of why Trump would choose Easter Sunday of all days to make such a post.

Another Twitter user said, “Trump’s shitposting about WWIII on Easter Sunday of all days is embarrassing to the Republican/conservative movement which is already a huge mess.  His earlier post about Easter was also simply garbage.  It’s not funny anymore. Childish.”

It still remains unclear what these two posts meant or to what they were referencing. The backlash likely could have been mitigated if they’d been shared on any other day.
