Trans Patient Accuses Gynecologist Of “Transphobia” After She Discouraged Her From Taking Testosterone, Getting Uterus Removal

A subreddit is under fire for “doxing” a gynecologist after she tried to discourage her patient from getting gender-affirming procedures. In a post shared on the r/FTM community, a female user who identifies as “male” asked for advice after accusing her doctor of being transphobic for saying “testosterone is unnatural for females.”

The post was shared last week by u/kitty0071 seeking advice after experiencing alleged transphobia during the appointment with her gynecologist.

“I’ve been procrastinating seeing a gynecologist for a few years because every one I’ve had in the past has been transphobic, so obviously, I was afraid of experiencing this again. Of course, because god hates me, my fears were not unfounded, and my new gyno was transphobic to me [during] my ENTIRE session,” begins the post.

Despite also admitting that she was experiencing uterine atrophy, where the lining of the vagina gets drier and thinner from a lack of estrogen due to testosterone use, u/kitty0071 continues her post explaining that the doctor spewed “all these transphobic remarks in the span of 10 minutes.”

In addition to asking her how testosterone was treating her, the New Jersey-based gynecologist reportedly told the Reddit user that taking testosterone is unnatural and asked her if she was planning on getting phalloplasty and a hysterectomy — the total removal of the uterus.

Although the 24-year-old, who self-identifies as a “trans masc thing” with autism and ADHD, stated she was unlikely to get phalloplasty, which surgically creates the look of having a penis by taking skin from a patient’s arms and legs, she told the gynecologist she was planning on getting a hysterectomy.

According to the post, the gynecologist did try to deter the demi-sexual trans-identified female from getting a hysterectomy, but provided her with a referral to a doctor who would be willing to “take out [her] beautiful uterus” anyway.

“I left feeling really f*cking bad about myself. I just can’t help feeling ugly after that, how people see my body. I also can’t believe all three different gynecologists I’ve had over the years have been outwardly transphobic to me to my face, especially living in a state where laws are supposed to protect trans people,” continued the post.

Concluding, she asked the other members of the subreddit, which describes itself as “a place for the guys,” what she should do next because she will have to deal with the gynecologist in question post-operation.

“Vent aside, what should I do now? Should I go to the surgeon she referred me to? If I do, I‘ll have to go back to her for checkups post-op. I also don’t know if I can trust him to not give me basic respect as a trans person. I don’t really know where to go from here though. Thanks for any advice!!”

Shortly after receiving nearly 500 upvotes and hundreds of comments of support, the author commented on her post, outing which doctor she saw and where her practice is located.

“I thought I was overreacting a bit, but it’s comforting that everyone seems to be in agreement that what she said was way out of line. It’s not even the worst thing a doctor has said to me, but now that I’m finally old enough to take action, I will be doing so. It’s not fair that trans people can’t even get basic fucking medical care without doctors outright insulting our bodies and our lives,” concludes u/kitty0071, thanking everyone for the advice.

This is not the first time transgender individuals have taken to Reddit to allege “transphobia” after rbeing confronted by medical or biological realities.

As previously reported by The Publica, dozens of trans people on the r/trans subreddit accused DNA testing companies of transphobia last year after their test results showed “there [was] a problem with the gender reported for [their] sample.”

Screenshots shared on the subreddit went viral, including one by a trans-identified female user by the handle u/Awkward-Afternoon-59, who revealed he had received a notification from the digital genealogy platform MyHeritage claiming there was a discrepancy with the information he provided after marking his gender as “female.”

“I took a DNA origin test. There is no peace for trans people,” he wrote. “Why do they force me to say I am a male? Gender is NOT the same as biological sex! Now, I have two options. Disable my public profile, making myself unfindable by relatives on that PAID service, or humiliate myself.”

Although u/Awkward-Afternoon-59 received thousands of upvotes, screenshots of his test results from MyHeritage also show that he was receiving the message from them because the company is “committed to quality control” and was able to detect that the biological sex indicated by his DNA didn’t match what he submitted.

“If you gave the DNA test to someone else,” the screenshot reads, “please reassign [the kit number] to that person and confirm his/her profile settings are correct. If you used it yourself, please double check that your gender as listed in your account settings matches your biological sex.”
